Melinda Rees

How long have you been a host/hostess?
Have been a hotel or camp manager for over 18 years.

Where are you a host/hostess?
Ol Seki Hemingways Mara

Where were you born?
Singapore, the daughter of a mobile expat family who grew up in the Far East and African countries.

What have you done before becoming a host/hostess?
Manager at Hemingways Watamu on the coast of Kenya; relief manager/trainer at various camps/hotels/lodges in East Africa.

What is your favourite spot to see wildlife?
The Masai Mara – such an incredibly rich eco-system, it allows fantastic wildlife variety in a tiny area.

What is your most memorable hosting moment and why?
Probably taking a group of clients to witness a Masai wedding; they were then invited to join the celebrations throughout the day and on the way back to the camp spotted a lion kill. Just an amazing day of wildlife viewing and cultural immersion in one.

What is the best part of your job and why?
Best part of my job is meeting the people and introducing them to Kenya. I love the wilderness and having it be a new experience for others helps to keep it fresh and alive for me as well.

If you could tell your guests one thing about your property, what would it be?

What is the one thing your guests may not know about being a host/hostess?
How much of a jack of all trades you need to be – I've been the chef; the driver/guide, the shower fixer; the barman; the waiter and the doctor at various times!

Come to Ol Seki Hemingways Mara to meet Melinda and the rest of the team.
