I just returned from Kenya and was lucky enough to spend my birthday sleeping out under the stars and being serenaded by a group of Maasai morans. Read more about my experience in the “Walking with Warriors” article found in the News Section.

Despite what you may be seeing in the media, Kenya is still a safe and secure place to visit and for the sake of Kenya and its people, who very much depend on tourism dollars for their livelihoods, don't be hesitant about visiting. Kenya deep down is in its heart a land reveling in warmth, tremendous cultural diversity and, of course, that incredible wildlife and is home to the friendliest people on earth.

At the World Travel Market in November, we were able to celebrate Borana Lodge’s success. They were honoured with the Virgin Holiday’s Responsible Tourism award for Poverty Reduction. This was given in recognition for all their amazing work through generating employment, improving school facilities, funding a mobile clinic, and for innovative initiatives like “Hide and Sheep”.

I also am thrilled to let you know that Borana Lodge, Lewa Wilderness and The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille will be open in April and May, 2008. This is a perfect time to visit Kenya as all is lovely, lush and green.

In this issue you will also find some interesting facts, a delicious recipe and some updates from our properties.
